چکیده

Electric flashover on power system apparatus and safety equipment can result in destruction to equipment and injury to workers, as well as pose a danger to anyone in the vicinity of this occurring. This phenomenon still continues to be an issue today despite over 100 years of research into the problem. It was determined that an exhaustive literature review should be performed to investigate mathematical models proposed thus far, evaluate them, and deduce if errors or weaknesses exist due to lack of knowledge at the time of development. We desire to find a model, assemble one out of others, or create one out of insight gained to more accurately represent dielectric surface flashover. A review was performed of static, dynamic, avalanche-streamer-leader, and surface interaction models. Employing electro-hydrodynamic models to model the avalanche-streamer system is typical in the physics literature. However, the incorporation of the Elenbaas-Heller analytical model for a leader was examined. A proposal to use Elenbass-Heller with the surface electron emission avalanche model is presented, possible weaknesses of both streamer-leader models are discussed, and future research to remedy these weaknesses is proposed.

EFFECT OF ELECTRIC FIELD ON PD ACTIVITY AND DAMAGE INTO SOLID DIELECTRIC MATERIALS

Abstract – In this paper, the effect of applied electric field on the damage due to partial discharges activity into the surroundings dielectrics of a narrow channel encapsulated within the volume of a dielectric material is evaluated using a kinetic model based on Particle in Cell - Monte Carlo Collision (PIC-MCC) model. After application of an electric field across a dielectric material which...

Pongamia pinnata Plant Seed Oil as Dielectric Fluid for Electro Discharge Machining Process

Electro Discharge Machining (EDM) is a noticeable machining practice among created unconventional machining procedures for intricate, complex profiles in "hard to machine" materials, similar to heat-treated steels, composites, superalloys, ceramics, composites, carbides, and so on. In EDM, the material expulsion of the cathode is accomplished through precise controlled electric discharge (the s...

Back-flashover Investigation of HV Transmission Lines Using Transient Modeling of the Grounding Systems

The article presents the transients analysis of the substation grounding systems and transmission line tower footing resistances which can affect to the back-flashover (BF) or overvoltage across insulator chain in an HV power systems by using EMTP-RV software. The related transient modeling of the grounding systems is based on a transmission line (TL) model with considering the soil ionization....

Statistical Evaluation of Critical Flashover and Withstand Voltage for Small Airgap

Insulation co-ordination and the risk of failure for insulation can be predicted if critical flashover (CFO) and insulation withstand voltages are known. The paper aims at using the statistical method of evaluating the critical flashover and the withstand voltage for an airgap distance of 10cm. The work was carried out with a point-plane electrode (needle point) arrangement using air as the die...

Study of leaky dielectric droplet behavior under an electric field: effect of viscosity and electric conductivity ratios

In this research, hydrodynamic behavior of a leaky dielectric droplet under an electric field is simulated. The level set method is used for interface tracking and the ghost fluid method is used for modeling discontinuous quantities at interface. Using Taylor’s leaky dielectric model, electric field and electric force at the interface is calculated. Simulation results show the droplet deformati...
